Frenchman Coulee

2021/04 2 days

Some friends of mine and I packed up the vans and took our families camping at Frenchman Coulee in Central Wa. We camped at a popular rock climbing formation known as The Feathers. These basalt columns stick straight out of the ground in what was the site of a prehistoric flood basin. First day of the trip we had high winds (common in Vantage) but the second day was clear and calm and we were able to get out hiking and mtn biking. I brought the climbing gear, but was the only climber in the group so we didn't end up climbing. I like to camp here in the spring and summer as the heat in the summer is a bit too much for me.

Picture We discovered a small pond (oasis?) on one of our hikes. Water was a little brisk to swim this time of year, but good to know about for summer.

Picture We did some desert hiking. There are cliffs in the area, so be cautions and maybe stick to the trails unless you're an experienced rock climber or scrambler.
