Cable car ride up
Masada was built in 31 B.C. as one of King Herod's fortress palaces. After the Jewish Bar Kochba revolt failed in 66 A.D., a group of Zealots called the Sicarii took over the fortress as their last holdout. The Romans would have none of this, so they laid siege to Masada in 73 A.D.

Roman Bathhouse
Ingenious waster supply system designed by the Romans. Diverted Wadi water was kept in cisterns. The Zealots had a 3 year water supply!

Roman Siege Ramp
Not having access to the cable car like we did, the Romans built a 350 foot high earth ramp up to the side of the plateau to roll a battery ram up to breach the walls. As there is not much rain here it is still pretty well preserved! Once breached, most Zealots committed suicide leaving only a few people for the Romans to capture
